A Fresh Look at a Familiar Topic
Many Lutheran churches take regular overseas mission trips to various places. For the most part, these trips are predominantly “youth events” and even for the adult trips, the mission is often built around local service projects, VBS assistance, etc. While this is commendable, in many of the places we visit outside of the USA, the locals are already much more in tune with the Biblical worldview/supernatural aspects of life that we've become blind to. Someone has said that the main “secularizing force” in the Third World has been Christian missionaries imposing our distorted, western, rationalistic worldview along with our charitable assistance. People groups who who don't have modern medical facilities and health insurance are much more open to divine healing. Those who haven't been westernized in their thinking understand the battle between unseen spiritual entities much more clearly than we do.
Wouldn’t it be fun to bring more than brick and mortar and VBS goodies? You can augment your traditional summer mission trip with a team of folks who are trained and comfortable with praying for healing and deliverance who will teach your group how to do it in an environment that is open and expectant of divine intervention! We instruct and model power ministry for those who are less experienced/comfortable with the supernatural but would be open to adding this type of ministry to their mission outreach.
We're all interested in an increase of the Kingdom of God and we believe that comes via both proclaiming the Kingdom, but also demonstrating the in breaking of the Kingdom through healing the sick, setting those held in demonic bondage free, etc. Not just "tell" but also "show" the Good News of the Kingdom of God.
