Is God still sharing secrets with His friends?
"Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy..." (1 Cor 14:39)
Prophetic ministry occurred throughout Old Testament scripture. In Israel the office of prophet was different from that of a New Testament prophet. His word became the only voice of God to the nation. Samuel, Elijah, Elisha and others gave direction, pronounced blessing and judgment on the country. New Testament prophets revealed Jesus through their words speaking edification, blessing and insights on coming events with the purpose of encouraging the body. This began on the day of Pentecost and continued throughout the New Testament and is our model for church today. When a loving, edifying word comes from the heart of God to a person, it will spark their faith, and they will be encouraged to believe God’s promises to be fulfilled in their lives. When God speaks into a person’s life, it imparts awe and touches the emotions. It is no longer just theological truth, but now the person realizes, "God noticed me and came into my circumstances to speak specifically to me!"
While we are not all prophets, scripture teaches that we can all prophesy. (1 Cor 14) So how should prophecy function in a local church today? This workshop is taught over the course of a Friday evening and all day Saturday weekend format and covers the basics of new testament prophecy. You will learn how God speaks to us and how to deliver (and judge!) a prophetic word. We will examine hindrances to prophecy being fulfilled and debunk common misconceptions about the prophetic. Each teaching session is followed by a "clinic" in which we put into practice what we’ve been learning about. We’ll have a number of activation exercises designed to get your prophetic gifting up and running. Finally, we will look at how to grow in one’s prophetic gifting and maybe even try some prophetic evangelism! (That’s always a blast!)
Let us know if you’re interested in hosting this workshop in your congregation.
